The Pins that hang from a fighter's belt are not mere trinkets; they are compressed fragments of that current, shaped by the alchemists and artificers who once served the great puppet-maker. The Vital Pin, in particular, is a small figurine whose hollow chest glows faintly, as though a trapped spark still refuses to die. When a combatant presses it to their palm, the spark leaks outward and refills the well that powers their muscles.

The Pin system itself is a hallmark of the world's martial tradition. Fighters in Hollow City do not rely on a single, monolithic set of skills. Instead, they curate a handful of small, specialized aids—each Pin a tiny philosophy of combat made physical. A brawler might pin a heavy-strike Pin and a Vital Pin to keep their aggression going; a duelist might pair a parry-boost Pin with a Vital Pin to outlast an opponent's flurry. The choice of which Pins to carry is as personal as a signature.

Because the Pins are crafted in the same workshops that produce the dolls themselves, they carry a quiet unease. To activate one is to spend a piece of your own animating force. The Vital Pin is a sustain tool, not a damage tool. Its job is to keep your Vitality pool topped off so you can chain stances, parries, and follow-up attacks without being forced into a full recovery window. Equip it in one of your Pin slots and activate it during a brief lull—right after a parry, between two stance switches, or the instant you drop below half Vitality. If your build leans into long, aggressive combos (heavy-stance brawlers, multi-stance duelists), pinning it to always-active is a strong choice: the steady drain is manageable, and you never lose the ability to top off mid-sequence.

Pair it with a Pin that boosts attack or parry damage for an offensive loop, or with a defensive Pin if you want to survive longer and punish with a single heavy hit. Avoid stacking it with other high-Vitality-cost Pins unless you have a reliable way to regenerate the resource, or you will find yourself perpetually one swing away from empty.

In practice, the Vital Pin shines most in extended encounters—multi-phase bosses, arenas with several enemies, or any fight where you cannot simply retreat to a bonfire. It is the Pin that lets you say, 'Not yet,' to death.
